Enter 2024 with a roar at Slo ‘Mo’s New Year’s Eve bash at the historic Ramova Theatre as we transform it into our own Pleasure Palace for one-night-only.
In the 1920s, cultural enclaves from Berlin to Bronzeville right here in Chicago were exploding with creativity that would define the era and genres of music and dance that endure today. A century later, we pay homage to those spaces, tapping into the lavish and creatively explosive era while lifting up the legacies of Black, queer and femme icons it is indebted to.
Born in the late 1920s as a movie theater, the iconic Ramova makes a triumphant return reimagined as a 1500-capacity music venue, making it one of the largest of its kind on Chicago’s south side. Slo ‘Mo’s Pleasure Palace NYE is slated to be the first major event for the venue, and we are proud to usher in the new era with our femme-forward, queer-centered, joy-generating approach to performance and parties. The grand evening will feature a live jazz band like those found in the era’s clubs and speakeasies musically directed by Akenya, with scintillating dance performances choreographed by Empress Darling Shear and DJ sets by Slo ‘Mo’s VITIGRRL & Icey Bby. The grand affair is hosted by our party matriarchs, Your Godmutha & Party Mom.
ATTIRE: In an effort to truly create a whimsical universe for the evening, we strongly encourage 1920s/30s era-appropriate attire. Interpretations welcome; we want to see you dripping in decadence, dahling! Check out the pinterest board here. Coat check will be available on site.
TICKETS: General admission tickets are $75+ taxes & fees and include entry beginning at 9pm with the party concluding at 2am. Bars are available throughout the venue including non-alcoholic options. VIP admission is $125 + taxes & fees and includes early entrance at 8pm with a cocktail hour hosted by Fords Gin featuring martinis, Sanpellegrino spirit-free spritzers, and oysters by Logan Oyster Socials as well as a complimentary sparkling toast at midnight, plus exclusive balcony access with a private bar & bathrooms and optimal viewing of the venue and stage. VIP tickets are very limited to ensure premium comfort. Ticket prices will increase between the on sale date and day of the show.
WELLNESS & ACCESSIBILITY: Ramova is a standing room only space. For ADA seating accommodations or other accessibility related assistance, please contact box@ramovachicago.com to coordinate reserved seating. Ramova is ADA accessible, with ground level entrance and and elevator to access the balcony floor. Self-filling water stations will be located on all bars. ADA accessible, all-gender restrooms are available throughout the building. If you are feeling overwhelmed and in need of a quieter environment for destimulation, there is space you can access with no music amplification, space, seating and water; please ask a staff to direct you. (This space is adjacent to coat check on the second floor, accessed by stairs or elevator from the taproom.)
With the recent ramp up of COVID-19, we encourage mask wearing and masks and sanitizer will be available at the theatre and tap room entrances. We also encourage guests to test in advance as well as the days following attending, as it can take several days to test positive. Please review and adhere to CDC isolation guidelines if you have had or been exposed to COVID.
